In 2019 Max Andrzejewski and Johannes Schleiermacher (long standing partners in the band Max Andrzejewski´s Hütte) founded their duo TRAINING. In their first year, 2020, they played Moers Festival, followed a little later by a request from the Jazzfest Berlin for a commissioned work. It provided the impetus for Training‘s transatlantic collaboration with American musician and producer John Dieterich, known for his experimental rock band Deerhoof. The resulting album, Three Seconds (Fun in the church), was highly acclaimed by the press. Since then, they have toured Europe and Mexico with their program.

In 2022 they started their new project GRUPPENTRAINING with a 5 part concert series in Berlin. For this they have developed a concept that aims to create and perform concert programs with guests from the most diverse musical backgrounds.
Video scores in the form of animated graphics as instructions for playing form the always same basis for the always different encounter.

in 2023, they invited the London based bass player Ruth Goller to form a trio. They released their album threads to knot in 2024 (Squama Recordings). The record was written in a truly collaborative effort, adapting the concept of ‘cadavre exquis’, the popular drawing game: One person would start writing a few notes before passing it on to the next, revealing only the very last note, with which the composition continues. Since then they played numerous festivals like Saalfelden Jazzfestival, and Alto Adige Jazz Festival, and toured the UK.

Their second album will be released on Squama in early 2027.
